Welcome to Spring at Widden Brook Farm
There’s a special kind of energy that arrives with the first days of spring here at Widden Brook Farm. The air feels lighter, the paddocks soften with new growth, and everywhere you look, nature is quietly unfurling after its winter rest. The elders are among the first to remind us thatthe season of renewal is beginning. Their delicate clusters of beautifully coloured leavbes drift in the breeze, catching the light and whispering that the season of abundance is returning.
Spring is always a time of anticipation on the farm, and this year, it feels even more poignant. We’ve been preparing the orchard for months, and now the new leaves and wildlife remind us of the deep connections that tie our work to the natural rhythm of the land.
Petal to Pour: Elderflower Mist in Spring
One of our favourite ways to celebrate this season is through Elderflower Mist Sparkling. Think of it as spring in a bottle. Just as elderflowers open softly on the farm, our pétillant naturel (or pét-nat) sparkles with life, fizzing gently with wild-fermented energy. No additives, no shortcuts—just time, patience, and native yeasts doing their work.
We like to call it petal to pour. There’s something deeply grounding about following the journey of each bloom—from the umbels that sway in the orchard to the glass in your hand, bubbles rising as soft as spring air. Each pour is a reminder that good things take time, and that nature always leads.
Pairing Elderflower Mist with seasonal delights makes it even more special. A wedge of creamy goat cheese, fresh figs, or even a simple sprig of thyme transforms the experience into a celebration of texture, flavour, and place. It’s farm-to-table living at its finest: elegant, simple, and rooted in authenticity.
The Frogs Return: Signs of Balance Restored
Another sign that spring has truly arrived is the return of the frogs. After the quiet of winter, their chorus fills the dams and creek beds once more. At dusk, as the light softens and the mist rises, their calls become the soundtrack to evenings on the farm (you can see and hear them here).
For us, the frogs’ return is more than a seasonal marker. It’s a symbol of health, balance, and resilience in the environment. Frogs are sensitive creatures, thriving only when the land and water are clean and healthy. Their presence reminds us that the careful choices we make—from chemical-free farming to nurturing diverse habitats—are making a difference.
Standing at the dam’s edge, hearing their chorus blend with the rustle of leaves, you can feel how interconnected everything is. The elderflowers, the sparkling wine, the frogs—they’re all threads in the same story of renewal.
A Season of Renewal and Connection
This spring, we’re celebrating more than just new blossoms. We’re celebrating the cycles that connect all life on the farm. From the first petal drifting on the breeze, to the gentle fizz in a glass of Elderflower Mist, to the return of the frogs in our waterways, each element tells a story of balance and care.
We invite you to raise a glass with us to the season ahead—full of growth, light, and the quiet joy that comes when nature sets the rhythm. Here at Widden Brook Farm, spring isn’t just a season. It’s a way of being connected to the land, and to one another.
